The loch to the right is one the many on which the Assynt Angling Club
maintains a boat. It is a mere two miles from our guest house. Permits for fishing and
keys and directions to access our boats are available from the guest house.
Whilst the boats
are primarily for angling, and may not be hired without a fishing permit, a days rowing,
walking and picnicking is wonderful exercise and entertainment all by itself. The visitor need
not feel obliged to fish in order to enjoy a day on a loch.
There are twenty lochs which have a boat and many others where bank fishing is possible. Fishing is with the fly and
we are delighted when we can pass on the local lore regarding the most appropriate fly
at the time. We are happy to listen to your opinions on choosing the best fly.
The walk to the old man of stoer, shown on the right, is one of
the favourite walks in assynt.
The hardy may come prepared to abseil across and climb the pillar. But this is not for the
faint hearted and indeed not for anyone who is not fully equiped for climbing.
There are too many walks to mention in assynt, but notable and readily
accessible from the guest house are the walks to suilven and to the falls of kirkaig.
The famous suilven is visible from our lounge and there are many who come to visit
just to climb it alone. Studying suilven from the lounge or the dining room is an
ideal preparation.
And don't forget to bring binoculars - eagles, ravens,
colonies of sea-birds, guillemot, puffins, skuas, seals, dolphins, otters....are
all to be seen and on the hill and coastal walks.
